Corey Cott Is the New King of Newsies

Landing a starring Broadway role as the “King of New York” — aka Jack Kelly in the hit Broadway musical Newsies at the Nederlander Theatre – is certainly a dream come true for Corey Cott. The actor, who just graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama this past May, recently spoke with TheaterMania about his ambitious debut on the Great White Way.

THEATERMANIA. How did this role come about?

Perez Hilton Is Spreading the NEWSical

Perez Hilton launched his celebrity entertainment blog PerezHilton.com  in 2004, and has since created a media empire that includes television, radio, and music. Now, he’s making his New York stage debut in the Off-Broadway hit NEWSical the Musical at Theatre Row’s Kirk Theatre, September 8-October 7.

TheaterMania recently spoke with Hilton about his acting background, changes in the show, which celebrity friends he expects to see in the audience, why Oprah inspires him, and his career aspirations.

THEATERMANIA: You graduated from NYU with a BFA in Drama. Did you ever consider acting for a living?

The Book of Mormon’s Jared Gertner Hits the Road

Farah Alvin Fights To Be The Last Smoker In America

Farah Alvin has wowed audiences in such shows as Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Nine, The Look of Love, and The Marvelous Wonderettes, for which she received a 2009 Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical. Currently, she’s co-starring in the new Off-Broadway musical, The Last Smoker in America, at the Westside Theatre, as Pam, a woman desperately trying to quit smoking. Rent’s Anthony Fedorov Finds Life After American Idol

Singer and songwriter Anthony Fedorov first came to fame on the fourth season of American Idol, made his Off-Broadway debut in 2007 as Matt in The Fantasticks, and has since appeared in regional productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cinderella, and Hairspray.He recently joined the cast as Roger in the Off-Broadway revival of Jonathan Larson’s Rent, now at New World Stages through September 9. TheaterMania recently spoke to Fedorov about the show, his love of musical theater, his debut album, and keeping up with his fellow Idol contestants.THEATERMANIA: Why did you want to be a part of this revival?
ANTHONY FEDOROV: My agent sent me on the audition and to be honest, I never thought that I would get it. Rent is one of the greatest musicals of all time.

Aaron Lazar Is a New Mamma Mia! Dad

Broadway veteran Aaron Lazar has wowed theatergoers in such shows as A Little Night Music, Les Misérables, The Light in the Piazza, and recently starred opposite Megan Hilty and Rachel York in the acclaimed City Center Encores! production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. He has now returned to the Great White Way as Sam Carmichael in Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ global smash hit musical, Mamma Mia!. TheaterMania recently spoke with Lazar about his latest role.

Tate Donovan Makes a Medieval Play Date

Actor Tate Donovan made his Broadway debut as Alan Seymour in Picnic in 1994, returned to Broadway in 1999 to star alongside Judi Dench in Amy’s View, and most recently co-starred in David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People opposite Frances McDormand in 2011. He is also well known for his work in film and television, including George Clooney‘s Good Night and Good Luck and a critically acclaimed stint on Damages.

In a change of pace, Donovan is currently starring in the world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan‘s comedy Medieval Play at Off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre. Ashley Spencer Is Ready to Rock of Ages

Ashley Spencer first came to our attention as a finalist on the NBC competition series, Grease: You’re The One That I Want, which later earned her a spot in the Broadway revival of Grease as Sandy. Since then, she’s appeared on Broadway as Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray and as one of the Divas in the original cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Now, Spencer is taking on the role of small-town girl Sherrie in the hit Broadway musical, Rock of Ages, at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Evita’s Rachel Potter Is Ready to Live the Dream

After coming to national attention on MTV’s Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle WoodsRachel Potter has starred in such hit shows as Wicked and The Addams Family. She is currently appearing as the Mistress in the Broadway revival of the musical Evita, now at the Marquis Theatre, and will appear in concert at Joe’s Pub on Sunday, May 13 at 9:30pm to celebrate her new country music EP, Live the Dream, with special guest Constantine Maroulis.

TheaterMania recently talked to Potter about working with her Evita co-star Ricky Martin, receiving praise from Andrew Lloyd Webber, and her upcoming album and concert.
